Tour guide Norman Oder
Hello!
Nearly all my tours are private tours, which typically last at least 2.5 hours, but can be adapted and extended, and scheduled at mutual convenience. I am available most days, including holidays.
1) Please note that the listed tours rely on walking and public transit, but I can
adapt tours to incorporate vehicles
. You can't see everything in one visit, even with a vehicle.
2) I do not have a car or drive--sorry! A vehicle tour requires hiring a car (or bus) and driver, and typically costs at least $60/hour more. I cannot hire a vehicle for you, though I can offer some suggestions.
3) Most tours typically involve steady, sometimes brisk walking, perhaps 2 to 5+ miles. I can adapt the tours to your pace and endurance; please let me know. If you can't walk much, consider a vehicle, or my gentlest tour,
DUMBO, Fulton Ferry & Brooklyn Heights
.
4) Before you contact me, please peruse my listed tours (linked at top) and check the
Fees for Private tours
page, which explains potential cost (starting
at $170
). You might check the
FAQ
and list of
misconceptions about Brooklyn
.
5) These tours were originally conceived for people visiting Brooklyn. If your starting point is in Brooklyn--you already live here, or are visiting--I may be able to adapt the routes to take advantage of that starting point.
6) As a one-guide operation, my availability varies, but I will respond promptly, often within hours, sometimes sooner, and always within a day. (Please
check
your junk mail or spam.) Same-day tours may be available. After an initial exchange of email, I'm happy to set up a phone consultation if helpful.
7) I prefer email, since it avoids "phone tag." You can leave a phone message (answering the questions below, if possible) at my voice mail, which is 917-795-8595. Please note: this alerts me
no faster
than email.
8) I lead ticketed group tours rarely, listed on the
Schedule
page. (Sorry, I cannot combine your private tour request with another group.)
9) The questions below with asterisks require responses. Please type your email
carefully
.
If you have a strong junk mail (or spam) filter, please check it for my reply.
Thank you,
Norman Oder

I may not respond to people who don't provide a last name.
Email (please type carefully!)
*
Mobile phone number
*
Especially if we need to organize a tour on short notice, or to set up a phone consultation. I usually *cannot* call a number outside of North America unless using WhatsApp.
Where are you from?
*
This may help me shape the tour to your interests.
Reminder: if your email account has a strong spam filter, will you check your spam for my response? (Just say: OK.)
*
Sometimes my emails get rejected or people forget to check their junk mail.
How many in your group? (Fees based on group size. See link at top.) If you have kids--how old?
*
Please note that my fee (see link above) varies depending on size of group (& age of kids).
When (days/dates) would you like the tour?
*
Alternate days offer more options in case of bad weather.
What time(s) would you like the tour?
*
The more options the better. I can also calculate travel time to our meeting place once I know where you are starting from.
Has your group been to Brooklyn (or our tour area) before? If so, where?
*
This helps me plan.
Which tour do you want? (Or: what is your request?)
*
Please see the list of tours I offer, as well as fees for private tours. If you don't know what you want, or have a special request, please let me know your preferences and questions.
How long a tour would you like? (Most are 2.5+ hours but can be extended or combined. Brooklyn 101 is 3 hours)
*
You can usually decide during the tour to extend it. My minimum fee is usually based on up to 2.5 hours.
On the *DAY* of the tour, where (address, or cross streets, or hotel) will you be leaving from, if you know? (Please be as specific as possible.)
*
This helps me estimate travel time to our meeting point, if you're in NYC. I assess that based on public transit: subway or bus. If you plan to take a taxi, drive, or bike, please tell me! Note: I seek more specific information beyond, for example, "Midtown," because it includes several subway stops. If you're coming from outside NYC, please let me know how you're traveling: driving? public transit?
Anything else I should know? (Reason for the tour, preferred pace, difficulty walking, destination after the tour, referral from a previous client, etc.?)
*
Are you new to NYC or the subway? What's your demographic (i.e., seniors, family with teenagers, etc.)? What are you most interested in? Is this a reunion or other celebration?
I am vaccinated/boosted and have been leading tours outdoors without a mask, but I can wear a mask outside on request. If you have a preference, please let me know.
*
If I am unmasked, my assumption is that your group is vaccinated.
Please click to send your message.
