Bedford-Stuyvesant is an enormous, fascinating neighborhood, with scads of brownstones and a complicated history.
Crown Heights has become ground zero for gentrification, but it too is large and complicated. The latter two are east and north of Prospect Park.
Directly south/southeast is Flatbush--including the enclave of Victorian Flatbush--which was once Brooklyn's second downtown, full of theatres. It contains layers. Sunset Park is a Brooklyn immigrant center, with both Latino and Chinese shopping streets, near the oasis of Green-Wood Cemetery, itself worth a separate tour.
