Tour guide Norman Oder
Nearly all my tours are
, which typically last at least 2.5 hours, but can be adapted and extended, and scheduled at our mutual convenience. My infrequent public tours are listed on the
. I am available for private tours most days/weeks, but some months/days book faster than others.
1) Please note that the listed tours rely on walking and public transit,
but I can
adapt tours to incorporate vehicles
. (I don't have a car or drive. A vehicle tour requires hiring a car and driver, and typically costs at least $50/hour more.
hire a vehicle for you, though I can offer some suggestions.)
2) Most tours typically require steady walking, perhaps 2 to 4 miles, though I can adapt the tours to your pace.
3) Before you contact me,
peruse my listed tours (linked above) and check the
Fees for Private tours
page, which explains
potential cost (starting at $165)
, as well as the
and list of
misconceptions about Brooklyn
. (Please note that I only rarely offer large group public tours, while other companies offer them regularly.)
4) As a one-guide operation, my availability varies, but I promise to respond promptly, usually within hours, sometimes within minutes, always within a day. (Please type your email address carefully.) Same-day tours
be available, but I always appreciate it when you provide options. Please note that I don't lead tours in religious Jewish neighborhoods on Saturdays. I do work on holidays, if available.
5) I prefer email, since it avoids "phone tag," but I recognize that's not always possible. You can leave a phone message (with as many answers as possible to the questions below) at 917-795-8595
; please note that this
alerts me no faster or slower than email.
After an initial exchange of email, I'm happy to set up a phone consultation if helpful.
6) Once you're ready to book, I'll send an invoice for a
, payable by credit card. (In certain cases, I accept checks.) The remainder is payable at the end of the tour.
7) Please make sure you type your email address correctly and that you check your Junk Mail (or SPAM) folder for my reply.

Email (please type carefully!)
Mobile phone number
In case we need to organize a tour on short notice, or if we set up a phone consultation. Unfortunately, I usually *cannot* call a number outside of North America unless it's using WhatsApp.
Where are you from?
This may help me shape the tour to your interests.
How many people in your group? (Fees--see link at top--based on group size. Kids--how old?)
Please note that my fee (see link above) varies depending on the number of people.
What day(s) would you like the tour?
The more options the better, of course.
What time(s) would you like the tour?
The more options the better.
Has your group been to Brooklyn/NYC before? If so, what neighborhoods?
Which tour do you want? (Or: what is your request?)
Please see the list of tours I offer, as well as fees for private tours. If you don't know what you want, or have a special request, please let me know your preferences. Questions are welcome.
How much time would you like to spend? (Most listed tours are 2.5 hours but can be extended or combined)
You can usually decide during the tour to extend it. My minimum fee is based on up to 2.5 hours.
Where precisely (hotel name, address, or cross streets) will you be leaving from--if you know--to meet me on the DAY of the tour? (A neighborhood name like "Midtown" is too vague)
This helps me estimate travel time. I am assessing that based on public transit. If you plan to take a taxi, or a bicycle, please tell me!
Will you PLEASE check your Junk Mail or SPAM folder in case my reply goes there? (The only answer I want here is: Yes.)
This answer is not required! But some people do miss my responses because they forget to check Junk Mail.
Anything else I should know about your group or request?
Are you new to NYC or the subway? What's your demographic (i.e., seniors, family with teenagers, etc.)? What are you most interested in? Is this a reunion or other celebration?
