Brooklyn Pizza Tour
Brooklyn has some of the best pizza in the universe, including a couple of classic places with coal-fired brick ovens. I've been to all these places myself, on my own, and as a contributing editor to the Slow Food Guide to New York (Chelsea Green Pub.).
This could work over several hours--let's call it an afternoon of gluttony. Of course you could do it on your own--and you could take Slice of Brooklyn Pizza Tour to two places by bus--but I can put together a good combo of food and lore.
Here are possible stops we could choose from: --Totonno's, in Coney Island (classic coal oven pizza) --DiFara, in Midwood (labor of love by an old-timer with impeccable taste) --Peperoncino or Franny's, in Park Slope (artisanal yuppie pizza) --La Villa in Park Slope (modern classic) --Grimaldi's, in Fulton Ferry (coal oven pizza again, incredibly popular location near the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge)
The route could go in either direction, and the places are easily reachable by public transportation. A phone call ahead may reserve takeout. Note that there's usually a long wait at DiFara, so that wouldn't work with anything other than a small group.
Price depends on size of group and time spent. |
