Fort Greene & Clinton Hill: Two Fascinating Neighborhoods
This tour encompasses two fascinating, contiguous neighborhoods. Fort Greene, home of some classic row houses, incorporates/borders the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), the centerpiece of a burgeoning arts district.

We visit Fort Greene Park, home of the city's definitive monument to war losses, and walk the neighborhood, once home to Richard Wright and Marianne Moore, now one of the city's most diverse.

We continue on to Clinton Hill, home of spectacular mansions, several associated with Charles Pratt. We finish our tour at the Pratt Institute, home to a magnificent sculpture garden (right).

We meet outside the tallest building in Brooklyn (for now), the Williamsburgh Savings Bank (at Hanson Place and Flatbush Avenue, near the intersection with Atlantic), home to several subway lines (2/3/4/5/N/R/Q) & the LIRR. We end a block away from a frequent bus to several subway lines.Click the map to open an interactive map in a new window.

Bonus: at the start of the tour, we will look at the land where developer Forest City Ratner has proposed a basketball arena for the Brooklyn Nets and associated office and residential buildings, all designed by Frank Gehry. That is covered in greater detail in the Atlantic Yards Footprint tour.
